Visions in Action – RiDERgy and the APCOA Challenge
Open innovation is becoming a reality. Large corporations see its value and are beginning to appreciate it. Particularly in the area of mobility and urban spaces, a change has been initiated that cannot be further developed without new ideas. APCOA is discovering how collaboration with start-ups not only brings added value but also decisive advantages.
With prototype.club as a decentralized development department, APCOA is constantly looking for new approaches and solutions to make urban hubs more efficient.
RiDERgy: smarter energy distribution
RiDERgy seized the opportunity and presented its ideas at the IAA Transportation APCOA with great success. RiDERgy has developed a platform that controls energy flows more efficiently and uses urban infrastructures more sustainably.
“At its core is a flexible architecture that can charge electric vehicles bidirectionally, supported by AI-based forecasts.”
Claudio Geyken, CEO & Founder of RiDERgy
This enables the optimal distribution of energy in urban areas and promotes the sustainable use of existing resources to face flexibility challenges in our energy system and hurdles in grid stability and volatile energy resources.
What role does prototype.club play?
prototype.club opened doors to large corporates for RiDERgy, such as APCOA, and enabled them to quickly make valuable contacts.
„The network helps us to identify the necessary contacts within the corporates that drive innovation forward,“
Claudio Geyken, CEO & Founder of RiDERgy
This is an advantage that few platforms offer – especially for young companies like RiDERgy that operate in a fast-moving technology market.
The APCOA Challenge as a springboard
Taking part in the APCOA Challenge not only opened doors for RiDERgy, but also generated concrete project ideas that they would like to tackle together with APCOA. By working together with well-known companies such as EnBW and APCOA, RiDERgy’s solution became more credible and attracted significantly more attention. This increased visibility strengthens confidence in the technology and opens up new market prospects in the long term.
„A decisive moment during the challenge was the identification of specific pain points at the corporates. These insights helped RiDERgy to further develop our solution in a targeted manner and tailor it even better to the needs of large companies.“
– Claudio Geyken
Future plans with APCOA: transforming cities sustainably
APCOA, a leading company in the field of parking lot management, offers enormous potential as part of a „virtual power plant“ with its parking garages. RiDERgy and APCOA will now work together to activate unused urban infrastructure for the energy transition. APCOA’s international presence also opens up exciting opportunities for RiDERgy to bring its solution to other European cities and build sustainable energy infrastructure there.
Tips for new start-ups
After two successful years in the prototype.club community and winning the 2022 and 2024 competition, RiDERgy also has some valuable advice for other start-ups:
„Take a close look at the needs of corporates and focus on the best matches. At prototype.club, you’ll get the professional support you need!“
A convincing pitch can be decisive – so take the time to prepare your presentation perfectly!
Actively shaping the future
RiDERgy has ambitious plans. In five years, the company wants to be active worldwide and use the intelligent software on a six-figure number of vehicles and charging points. With the continuous growth of the prototype.club network and the support of partners such as APCOA, RiDERgy is well on the way to shaping the future of energy management in the long term.
About RiDERgy
Ridergy has already successfully demonstrated twice how important smart energy management solutions are. In addition to the recent collaboration with APCOA, the Berlin-based start-up has already convinced EnBW in 2022, with their innovative approaches to the electrification journey.
